Book
There are visible signs that we have already entered the early stages of a dystopian society. This book looks at various depictions of control and manipulation, the mechanisms used, and why the people seem to remain content.
Advancements in technology, an increase in cognitive offloading and the decline of deep engagement and critical thinking are all leading us to a place we really don't want to go.
I explore three of the most famous novels, 1984, Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451, and compare them to today’s society. Orwell projected the manipulation of truth and the removal of free thinking upon a society. Huxley exploited the desire for shallow contentment, and Fahrenheit 451 foresaw a populace that would choose ignorance.
I share the signs and behaviours from these three novels that are visible in today’s society, the impact of technological advancements, and discuss what we can do to help make a more positive future for ourselves and our children.
